just cat!spock headcanons

-spock being unable to control his purring when he is content and in Jim's company

-when he yawns, his tongue flicks upwards

-when he finishes meditating he does the biiiiig stretch

-he can be found curled up beside a radiator when he chooses to sleep

-he enjoys compact spaces and sits in the dark

-i mean his quarters are canonically darker than the rest because he wants it to be so

-he absolutely nuzzles. he nuzzles jim. often. when they're alone.

-sometimes in the middle of the night, Spock will come into Jim's quarters and curl up next to him

-he absolutely requires the need to have his hands busy, much like a cat with a scratching post

-he self cleans.

Unpopular opinion but of the trio, I do NOT think Spock is the black cat. McCoy is the black cat. Judgemental, loudly complaining, hissing and claws out to hide the fact he loves you and cares for you. He doesnt want to go on dangerous missions or be in space at all but if his friends go then hey wait up!!! Just like a cat that sits next to you pretending you're not there, but if you leave the room they follow you desperately. Jim is a golden retriever, obviously. Happy, loyal, protective, inquisitive. Spock, though, I think that he's like an octopus. Alien to the mammals and yet fascinating, intelligent, cunning, still able to connect amd communicate (especially if it's to throw a stinky fish at his friends and then pretend it wasn't him).

the rough childhood trio with their childhood pets. (each of these gets a couple sentences of variably cryptic context-- all up for interpretation, of course. in my head these are all bittersweet ^^)

i-chaya wasn't supposed to be at school, technically, but amanda had a talk with the teachers, and they concluded that it was logical to allow i-chaya to continue to accompany spock to school, when his performance showed such marked improvement when she was around.

sometimes, during intervals between lessons, which were always timed precisely for optimal development of social skills, spock would sit cross-legged in a corner of the schoolyard, and i-chaya would sink down onto the red sand beside him and nudge at his cheek with her damp nose, and spock would reach up into her coarse, thick coat and press his forehead into the safety of her fur until the stinging remarks of the other children would melt and fall away in the harsh vulcan sun.

"he's up there in the stars, jamie. whenever you feel like you're on your own, just look up at the night sky and count the stars. he would've been so proud of you."

james tiberius kirk read, once, that pigs were unable to look up at the sky. from then on, he made sure to prop all of the pigs on the farm up every so often, so that they could look at the stars with him. for his birthday, his mother knit him two matching sweaters with stars on the chest-- one for him, and the other for wilbur (the grandpiglet of the sow she tripped over a decade ago).

bones was raised, essentially, by the large, calico barncat who lived on the mccoys' farm. she had not been named, and she wouldn't let anyone else touch her-- only bones.

when he was a baby, she curled up beside him in his crib with her tail around his ankle to stop him from crawling out and hurting himself.

when he got older, on difficult days, she would grab him by the sock and drag him to the old rocking chair in the attic and curl up on his lap and bite at his fingers until he could bring himself to pet her, and then she would purr and purr as he stroked through her warm, soft fur and rocked himself better in the big rocking chair. if anyone tried to drag bones away, she would hiss and yowl and bat vehemently at the intruding hands until he could be left alone.

imagine amanda watching how mothers on vulcan share a telepathic bond with their children and not being able to do this for spock

imagine how it would break her heart, how she might worry they'll never connect when she sees a mother touching her daughter's face or holding her son's hand with purpose, without words

imagine spock melding with her as soon as he's able, showing her he loves her because he can't say it, he'll never be able to say it

imagine her being so proud of her little boy for researching and teaching himself to meld with a non-telepath just for her, all for her

holding him after when he's so exhausted he goes boneless in her arms and she strokes his hair and thanks him

and he mumbles something about it being illogical to thank him before falling asleep and she holds his little hand and feels the tiniest sparks of love still there, so small she might've imagined them before he's snoring softly

Saw a post about teeny tiny humans headbutting to show affection after witnessing cats doing it. And I instantly thought of Vulcans.

Vulcans who have big cat bears hanging out in their house as the family pet.

I’m just imagining baby Vulcans, so used to touch because of telepathy and early childhood bond forming. So used to having their parents touch their psi-points to initiate a bond.

And they have a cat teddy bear who loves rubbing their face all over their favorite person. So Vulcan toddlers press their psi-points to all their favorite things. Trying to telepathically connect with their stuffed animals, butting their head against their mom’s hand, forehead connecting with a shoulder while sitting at a tea ceremony. Unfocused early meditation lessons where the kid just gets up and smacks their head against dad’s a little too hard

I love Vulcan babies. I need more headcanons of Vulcan kids and family dynamics

Kirk’s mannerism I’ve noticed: when the situation is completely out of control, but he needs to stay calm and collected, and most probably disguise his nervousness, he holds his hands together.

And during these situations he often becomes very sassy as well.

There's not enough talk about Spock's relatives from his mother's side. I'm sure Amanda had some family on Earth. Can you imagine Spock being an uncle to a bunch of little rambunctious Terran kids who, to his horror, find him *fascinating*?

Guys I just got the dumbest idea oh my god.

Okay so, what if after the Enterprise B goes down and Kirk gets sent to the Nexus, because he's not dead his telepathic link with Spock is still there, and because the Nexus is weird like that he doesn't entirely process that Spock is as far away as he actually is, so they continue sharing thoughts like they always have and Jim just sort of doesn't question it and Spock can't get a good answer about where he is, so he quits asking. Other than Sarek and Amanda, no human/Vulcan couple has ever had a real link together, so when people find out that Spock can still hear Jim even though he's dead they're like "uhhh yeah okay whatever fuck it sure why not".

So, it becomes a pretty frequent thing that while Spock is doing Diplomat Stuff, he's regularly asked "well, what does the famous Captain James T. Kirk have to say?!" And Spock, very begrudgingly has to answer: "Ambassador, I regret to inform you that Captain Kirk says that your plan is, and I quote, 'a load of horseshit worse than what I find in my fucked up barn every morning'."

i was rewatching the naked time and something i just noticed is that spock wears a shirt under his uniform and kirk doesn’t??? so that either means that spock’s undershirt is not regulation or it IS regulation and jim just chooses to not wear it (probably to show his muscles when it inevitably gets ripped off)
